There are a lot of systems of giving up smoking that tries to make the process of smoking as unpleasant as possible. For instance argentic acitate in combination with smoke causes an unpleasant smell in the mouth. A method of frequent and deep inhalation is also rather popular; it leads to nicotine intoxication (nicotinism) and causes cigarette aversion. Nevertheless resent researches with large groups of patients show small effectiveness of these methods.
It is a hard thing to decide to quit smoking ones and for all. The first thing that prevents people from this step is a so called abstinence syndrome - feeling bad for several days after the last inhalation. If an organism demands his nicotine dose let him get it. But not through cigarettes but with the help of special cigarette substitutes: nicotine plaster, drugs, chewing gum, candies and aerosols. Plaster for example keeps nicotine level in the blood on a stable high level. All these preparations make the life of the smoker much easier, but they can't substitute the feeling of emotional psychological comfort which cigarette gives. Nevertheless, when such type of treatment is used chances to give up smoking increase in 1.5-2 times.
Energizers also help people who decide to quit smoking. But it is very important to consult a doctor before taking these medicines. Energizers taking can cause serious side effects so the drug should be chosen very scrupulously and connected with each patient's condition. Anti nicotine homoeopathic drugs have a relaxing effect as well; they also make you feel better during the first weeks after giving up smoking. Headache and weakness are decreased, dry mouth disappears and throat tickling decreases as well. These medicines won't do any harm that's for sure.
I don't want to give up smoking, because:
…I will not feel very well. Yes, you won't. If you decide to quit smoking you'll suffer from insomnia, uneasiness, irritability, dry mouth. To make this period of your life easier, your should drink a lot of water or buy a special tea for smokers.
…I'll gain weight. Nicotine doesn't speed up processes in organism and can't influence your bodyweight. Doctors suppose that people lose their bodyweight because they simply forget about food during smoking. After stopping of smoking your will try to compensate discomfort by means of chocolate and pastries - they increase the level of endorphins in blood - this is a hormone of pleasure that increases your mood. But if you look at the mirror you mood can decrease. It's up to you to increase it by any way.
…I'll lose the ability to concentrate on some things and to think clearly. Nicotine stimulates the work of the brain and causes a slight euphoria. It seems to you that you work wonderfully but it is not really so. Other people won't agree with your estimation of the work you do. During first weeks after giving up smoking it will be difficult to concentrate on some particular things but very soon a brain will start to work more efficient. Nicotine slowly poisons and kills brain tissue; free from it a brain will generate brilliant ideas.
…I will be very nervous and irritable. Smoking relaxes, helps to go through difficult time, helps to take a pause, makes communication easier and gives a feeling of comfort. Psychologists believe that smoking takes a man back to the times when he was an infant and felt safe only on the hands of a mother. But is it normal to use baby's dummy when you're 30-40 years old? Look around and you'll see real adult people who refused to smoke deliberately.
